Gerald Day


Jerry has 18+ years of technical and management experience in engineering and manufacturing. He has leveraged his experience and educational background, which includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology and a Masters degree in Business Administration, to successfully lead diverse manufacturing organizations.

He has held multiple technical and leadership positions during his career in industry—Test Engineer, Systems Test Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering, Director of Operations/General Manager and V.P. of Operations/General Manager. His experience includes a broad range of business improvement team leadership where Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continual Improvement Teams were leveraged to improve efficiency and effectiveness within the organization.

Jerry applies his industry knowledge and experience as a project manager for the NWMOC. In his current role, he leads people through the process of improvement by teaching the methods and application of improvement tools, such as, the principles of lean, setup reduction/quick changeover, 5S (workplace organization), value stream mapping/transformation, strategic planning, and others.

Presentation:

Workplace Organization utilizing 5S is one of the key building blocks of Lean Manufacturing. A typical lean implementation starts with Workplace Organization. Attendees will receive a high level overview of Workplace Organization and learn how the 5S tool is used to improve the work area and operator efficiency. The elements of the 5S approach include; Sort, Shine, Set in Order, Standardize, and Sustain. Each element will be broken down and discussed during the breakout session.
