Brad R. Montgomery

S/A Brad Montgomery Graduated from Marian College
in 1992 with a Bachelor's Degree in Administration of Justice. He
has worked as a Special Agent with the Wisconsin Department of
Justice since February, 1994. He first worked with the Division of
Narcotics Enforcement until August 1997 then transferred to the
Division of Criminal Investigation's Arson Bureau. In 1998 he began
working to build the Computer Crimes for DCI, working on both
computer crime and arson investigations, and was transferred into
the new Computer Crime Unit as the sole Special Agent in the unit in
1999.

While in the Computer Crimes Unit he assisted in
developing Wisconsin's Federal Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)
Task Force. This ICAC Task Force has since become one of the most
successful ICAC Task Forces in the nation.

In 1999, he assisted in developing DCI's first
Computer Forensic Unit (CFU) to meet the demands of the caseloads
provided by the ICAC Task Force. In June, 2000 was fully transferred
into the CFU to work with the ICAC Task Force. Expanded the unit’s
capabilities from its beginnings of one Digital Intel FRED analysis
computer, to a 50 client, and 15 Terabyte Server, computer forensic
network.

His responsibilities in the CFU include seizure,
duplication and analysis of computer, investigation of electronic
intrusions, computer-facilitated child exploitation and proactive
investigations involving online child enticement. He provides
computer evidence analysis in cases involving arson, homicide, white
collar crimes, government corruption, gaming, and any other case
which DCI may investigate. He also provides ongoing consultation to
law enforcement officers throughout the State of Wisconsin regarding
computer crime related investigations and forensic computer
examinations.

S/A Montgomery provides computer crime and
evidence related training to local, state and federal law
enforcement officers through DCI and third party sponsored training.
He assisted in the development of DCI’s weeklong computer crime
course, Seizing Processing and Analyzing Computer Evidence (SPACE),
which was provided to local law enforcement in Wisconsin.

S/A Montgomery is a former board member of the
Wisconsin Cyber Incident Response Planning Group organized to put
together a response plan for potential Cyber-Terrorism attacks on
Wisconsin’s infrastructure.

S/A Montgomery is also currently employed as a
part-time instructor for Guidance Software (creators of EnCase
computer forensic software), providing training throughout the
United States in the use of EnCase software and computer forensic
examinations to local, state, federal and international law
enforcement officers, military and intelligence community personnel,
as well as examiners from private corporations. He is also employed
as a part-time instructor for MATC - Madison, providing training in
Wisconsin to local law enforcement officers in the field of computer
crime investigations, digital evidence handling, and computer
forensics.
